{"id":410,"date":"2012-12-31T11:16:46","date_gmt":"2012-12-31T16:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/topnotchcoachingllc.com\/site\/?p=410"},"modified":"2012-12-31T11:16:46","modified_gmt":"2012-12-31T16:16:46","slug":"note-from-coach-mario-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/topnotchcoachingllc.com\/site\/note-from-coach-mario-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Note from Coach Mario"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fourth Quarter 2012-\u00a0 Issue 10<\/p>\n<p>At the End of the Day-\u00a0 &#8220;Being and Walking With The Troops&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a leader who wants to be transformational and build a sustainable favorable leadership culture, being and walking with the troops is an authentic action that\u00a0such a leader can consistently take.\u00a0 In Bernard Bass&#8217; Full Range Leadership Model, the leadership style referred to as Transformational Leader has the following four components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Idealized Influence (Actions speak louder than words)<\/li>\n<li>Inspirational Motivation (Exciting the masses\/sharing the Vision)<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual Stimulation (Thinking outside\u00a0the box)<\/li>\n<li>Individualized\u00a0Consideration (Being compassionate and developmental)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is much easier to show the transformational leadership style when the leader walks among the troops.\u00a0 When the leader gets out of his\/her office and physically\u00a0visits the work locations throughout his\/her national\u00a0or other geographical footprint, the leader feels a connection to the troops.\u00a0 It gives the leader the opportunity to see the work the troops\u00a0are doing, which is a source of pride for them.\u00a0 It gives them a chance to give the leader their perspective which often includes suggestions on how to make the business better.\u00a0 It provides the leader a platform to model the behavior that includes active listening, asking and allowing questions to be asked and to share or reiterate the vision, the direction\u00a0the leader is taking the organization.\u00a0\u00a0In doing these things, the leader is creating an environment, a culture, where the people are motivated to be open and always striving to be the best they can be.<\/p>\n<p>Many positive stories are often shared by the troops with the leader that illustrate tremendous teamwork&#8211; with a keen &#8220;eye&#8221; on efficiency and on the customer permeating the culture.\u00a0 It is this positive energy that\u00a0allows the organization to deal from a position of strength, addressing the challenges and opportunities in a constructive and successful way.\u00a0 Walking\u00a0among the troops also cultivates the relationships that are critical in establishing an environment where there is mutual respect with an understanding, valuing and caring for each other.\u00a0 Building these relationships internally provides the foundation to build and solidify cross-functional relationships externally as well.\u00a0 Through these relationships with others, partnerships are built and a spirit of teamwork\u00a0serves as a catalyst for development and growth within the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, being and walking\u00a0with the troops is invigorating for the leader and for the troops.\u00a0Done in a consistent and sincere manner, all four\u00a0components of Bernard Bass&#8217; transformational leadership model can be achieved in the leader&#8217;s quest to build a sustainable favorable leadership culture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Mario Flores<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Mario.Flores.
